Black mould is more than an eyesore. Its airborne spores can trigger and worsen asthma, allergies and other respiratory problems — a particular risk for children, older people and anyone with an existing condition.
Wiping mould away or painting over it only ever hides it. Because mould feeds on moisture in the air and on cold surfaces, it always returns unless the underlying condensation, damp or ventilation problem is resolved first.

Black mould (Stachybotrys)
The dark, clustered mould found in corners, around windows and behind furniture. It thrives on condensation and poor air movement, and its spores are the type most associated with health effects.
Condensation mould
Warm, moist air from cooking, washing and drying meets cold surfaces and condenses, feeding surface mould on walls and ceilings. The fix is the right balance of heating, insulation and ventilation.
Damp-driven mould
Where mould is fed by rising or penetrating damp rather than condensation, the moisture source has to be treated first — cleaning the mould alone will never keep it away.
