What is Woodworm Treatment?
Woodworm is the collective name for the larvae of several wood-boring beetles that tunnel through structural and decorative timber. The most common in UK homes is the Common Furniture Beetle. The larvae feed inside the wood for years before emerging, leaving the tell-tale exit holes and fine dust. An active infestation can gradually reduce the strength of joists, floorboards and roof timbers, so accurate identification of whether it is active is the essential first step.

The warning signs to look for
Catching the problem early keeps repairs simpler and less costly. If you notice any of these signs, it is worth booking a specialist survey before the damage spreads.
Book a complimentary survey
- Small round exit holes (roughly 1-2mm) in timber
- Fine, powdery dust (frass) beneath or around holes
- Weak, crumbling or damaged floorboards and joists
- Tunnels visible in cut or broken timber
- Dead beetles near timber or on windowsills
- Timber that feels soft or gives way underfoot

Everything you might be wondering
Fresh, clean exit holes and new powdery frass are signs of an active infestation. Our survey confirms whether beetles are still present so treatment is only carried out where it is genuinely needed.
Not always. Old, inactive infestations may need no treatment at all. We diagnose first and only recommend treatment for active woodworm or timber at genuine risk.
